Coughs are a frequent and inconvenient symptom of the common cold and flu. Cough is reported in 40–50% of people suffering from colds1 and 93% of people suffering from flu.7

While cough during a cold can be mild to moderate, cough during the flu is often severe,2,3 and can have a significant impact on daily life.4

Treatment is guided by two distinct types of cough
